What this policy covers
This policy covers the Tessel macOS app and tesselwm.vercel.app. It describes the current direct-download beta, version 0.2.0. Tessel arranges, groups, previews and pins windows on your Mac.
What the app processes
Tessel reads information about running apps and their windows, including app identifiers, window titles, positions, sizes, display information and window state. It uses this information to arrange windows, build tab groups, show Window Map and restore layouts.
Mouse events, registered keyboard shortcuts and trackpad gestures are processed locally to operate these features. Tessel does not build a typing history or send your input activity to the developer.
Permissions and window previews
Accessibility lets Tessel inspect, move, resize, focus, minimize and close windows, and interact with the source window behind a pinned preview. Window management requires this permission.
Screen Recording lets Tessel capture window images and display live pinned previews. It is optional for basic window arrangement and required for preview features. A preview can show sensitive information visible in the source window. Tessel does not record microphone or system audio.
Normal preview images and live frames are processed in memory on your Mac; the app does not upload them or save them as a video recording. Diagnostic test sessions can create local screenshots. You can revoke permissions at any time in System Settings → Privacy & Security, which disables the affected features.
What is saved on your Mac
Tessel stores preferences such as shortcuts, gesture actions, preview appearance, excluded apps and launch-at-login choices. It also saves layouts, the last arrangement and recovery information. These files can contain app identifiers, window titles, display identifiers, window positions and sizes, and process identifiers.
Local layout diagnostic reports are written during use and can include window titles, layout details, permission status and interaction diagnostics. Optional debug logging adds local operational logs; macOS also maintains system logs. These diagnostics are not automatically submitted to the developer.
App data is stored in your user Library, including ~/Library/Application Support/Canopy/, the app’s macOS preferences, and, for optional debug logs, ~/Library/Logs/FocusLatch/. The internal folder names reflect the app’s earlier development names. Existing Focus Latch preferences may be imported locally.
Network activity and sharing
The current app has no user accounts, cloud sync, advertising SDK, analytics service or automatic crash-report upload. It does not send window content, saved layouts, usage events or diagnostics to a developer-operated server, and it does not use AI services to process your windows.
Downloading the app from the website requires a connection to its hosting provider. macOS may contact Apple when checking the app’s Developer ID signature or notarization. Those checks are handled by macOS under Apple’s policies.
If you email us, we receive your email address and whatever you choose to include. We use this information to respond and troubleshoot, and retain it as needed for that purpose or applicable legal obligations. Review screenshots and diagnostic files for private window titles or other sensitive information before sharing them. We do not sell your personal information or use it for targeted advertising.
This website
The website and app download are hosted on Vercel. Delivering and securing these requests involves technical information such as your IP address, browser information and requested URL. See Vercel’s Privacy Notice.
Typefaces are hosted with the website, so viewing the site does not require a connection to Google Fonts. The site has no account system, advertising or analytics scripts, and its own code does not set tracking cookies. The hosting provider may process data outside your country.
Retention and your choices
Saved layouts and preferences remain on your Mac until replaced or removed. Recovery and diagnostic files may be updated or overwritten during use. Uninstalling Tessel may leave preferences, support files and logs behind; quit the app before removing them. Copies may also remain in backups you control.
You can stop processing by quitting Tessel, revoke macOS permissions, exclude an app from arrangement, or disable optional debug logging. We cannot access or remotely erase files held only on your Mac. Contact us for help locating those files.
Where applicable, you may ask to access, correct or delete personal information you have sent us, object to or restrict its use, and complain to your local data protection authority. These rights depend on applicable law. We use correspondence to respond to your requests and hosting information to operate and secure the site, relying on applicable legitimate interests or legal obligations.
Children
Tessel is a general-purpose Mac utility and is not directed at children under 13. The app does not ask for age or account information. If a child has sent personal information to us by email, contact us so we can address it.
Changes to this policy
We will publish revisions here and update the date above. Changes to the app’s data practices will be described in the policy applicable to that version.
