About Tessel

These terms apply to the Tessel macOS app (the “App”) and this website, provided by Joao Valente. By downloading or using them, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use the App or website.

Tessel is an independent window-management utility. It is not affiliated with, sponsored by or endorsed by Apple Inc. Mac and macOS are Apple trademarks.

Use of the app

You may install and use the App on Macs you own or are authorized to manage, for lawful personal or professional purposes. This permission does not transfer ownership of the App or website. Any third-party software included in the App remains subject to its applicable license.

The current beta download requires no account, subscription or payment. These terms do not authorize future charges. Any future paid offering would need to disclose its price and applicable terms separately.

Permissions and window control

Tessel needs Accessibility permission to manage other apps’ windows. Screen Recording permission is needed for window images and live pinned previews. Grant permissions only on a Mac you are authorized to use; you can revoke them in macOS settings.

The App can move, resize, focus, group, minimize or close windows when you use the corresponding controls. Focus lock can return focus to a selected app. Preview features can display sensitive material from another window above your other apps. You are responsible for the content visible during presentations, screen sharing or recording.

Save important work before testing a beta. Layout and recovery features depend on macOS and the other apps involved, so restoration of every window or unsaved state is not guaranteed.

Beta status and compatibility

This release is beta software. Features can be incomplete, change or stop working, and behavior can differ between apps, displays and macOS versions. Some keyboard shortcuts or trackpad gestures may conflict with your system settings or other software.

The downloadable beta currently supports macOS 14 or later on Apple silicon and Intel Macs. Updates are installed manually from this website. There is no promise of a particular update schedule, ongoing support or compatibility with future macOS releases.

Privacy

Our Privacy Policy explains how Tessel processes window information, permissions, local layouts and diagnostics, and how this website handles requests. It also explains what happens if you choose to send support information to us.

Acceptable use

Use Tessel in accordance with applicable law and the rights of others. Do not use it to monitor someone’s Mac without authorization, expose confidential window content, or interfere with systems you do not have permission to control. Your use of other apps and services remains subject to their terms.

No warranty

To the extent permitted by law, the App and website are provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of uninterrupted operation, error-free behavior or fitness for a particular purpose. A Developer ID signature and Apple notarization confirm distribution checks; they do not guarantee that every feature will work in every environment or that the App is free of defects.

Liability and your legal rights

To the extent permitted by applicable law, the developer is not liable for indirect or consequential loss arising from the use of, or inability to use, the App or website, including loss caused by interrupted workflows or failed window restoration.

Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited, or reduces mandatory consumer rights or remedies. Applicable law determines which limitations apply to you.

Stopping use and changes

You can stop using Tessel at any time by quitting and uninstalling it. Revoke its macOS permissions and remove local data if you no longer want them retained, as explained in the Privacy Policy.

We may revise these terms for future versions or website use. Revisions will appear at this address with an updated date; they do not remove rights that have already arisen under applicable law.
